This Prospect Heights message board thread refers to an off leash dog that got run over by a car in Prospect Park, possibly during off leash hours. Whenever this happened, it was enough to discourage another offleasher from taking his dog back to Prospect Park. Now he is promoting the construction of a fenced dog run in tiny little Mount Prospect Park on Eastern Parkway, which is already a magnet for dog owner scofflaws in Prospect Heights.
I would love to know more about this incident in Prospect Park, and I'm surprised it hasn't been blown up in the local news.
While devoting the central open space of Mount Prospect Park to dog doo and poo (the oval area mentioned in the thread as a possible dog run) seems excessive, designating fenced areas for the offleash dogs in Prospect Park itself seems to be long overdue.
It goes without saying that the dog had to have been off-leash illegally, because none of Prospect Park's roads are in designated off-leash areas.
