Rabbits of CP; Yesterday in Prospect Park

Central Park has no wild rabbits and the question is why. It had them as recently as four years ago. Odd that this article suggests coyotes, raccoons and feral cats as possible culprits, but doesn't mention the vastly increased daily population of out-of-control illegally unleashed dogs, particularly in the areas such as the North End that rabbits used to inhabit.

Hat tip to Datnioides.

Yesterday in Prospect park between about 3 and 4, 3 unleashed dogs romping on the Nethermead meadow and 1 at the dog beach. Not that it would have mattered, but no law enforcement in sight.

Dogs are run off leash all the time through the wooded areas in Prospect Park where they are prohibited. Right now bird migration is begining and Prospect Park's wooded areas are a haven for them. When dogs run free through these areas the birds are stressed and flee. Certain birds feed on the ground and the simply don't stand a chance.
