So in addition to Prospect, Central and Alley Pond parks, illegally loose dogs are in the woodlands of

Forest Park. Why are we not surprised?

* * * *

At 3:40 P.M. today there were 7 unleashed dogs on the Nethermead. A half hour later, they were gone; one wonders whether the presence of a DOPR van had anything to do with it. But there was a woman playing with her yapping, unleashed dog on the slope below the Maryland monument. As usual, all dog owners were white.

Here's something people who allow their dogs to run loose in the forest should understand. To someone wandering in the woods, their dog might be mistaken for a feral dog. And when a feral dog comes out of nowhere, it makes people nervous to the point where they may hurt the animal out of fear for themselves, their own dogs or their kids. Anyway, unleashed dogs do not belong in forests. These are supposed to be protected habitats. But I guess open meadows, dog runs and dog beaches aren't enough for some folks.
