Saturday on the Peninsula; CBS Reports on Dog Urine

We were in the park from 7:30am until 12:30pm and didn't see any PEP patrols until noon.

I avoided all the official off-leash areas until 10 A.M., when I brought my group out to the Peninsula. We were standing next to the lake at 10:15 A.M. when I noticed three large dogs running out onto the field. They were coming from Wellhouse Drive, where they had also been unleashed. Two women were with the dogs and I shouted that off-leash hour was over. One of their dogs headed straight into the lake, where dogsare never permitted. The women ignored me, so I took out my camera and began to record them. One woman, a 30-ish blond with both arms covered in tattoos, began to shout at me. She than came charging at me and yelled, "Erase that photograph immediately!" I told her, first, that it wasn't a photo but a video and, second, no, that it was a public park and I had every right to record whatever I wanted. She followed me to the lake yelling all sorts of forgettable nonsense, which I ignored. I did tell her that I liked her "Iggy and the Stooges" T-shirt, to which she said, "Thank you", then continued her tirade. I explained that I had specifically waited until 10 A.M. to come to the Peninsula so that I would avoid all the unleashed dogs and that she was being rude by ignoring the rules. She said that she didn't think she was bothering anyone. I pointed out that she obviously didn't care what people thought and that the only reason she was leashing her dog was because she saw me with my camera. She and her friend took their dogs into the woods on the Peninsula where, presumably, they unleashed them.

Meanwhile, this CBS-TV story reports how much dog urine has damaged an upper west side park, while dog owners blithely ignore requirements to curb their pets.

Any dog owner who thinks it is ok to let their dog urine on a tree in a park is lying. They are just selfish.

It is not always the dog owners fault. Everybody is craping all over Prospect Park.
