Dog Bites

According to this report in the New York Daily News, during 2011, State Farm Insurance paid $109 million on 3800 claims nationwide.  Estimates are that the total paid by all insurers was $479 million.  And that's up about 10% from 2010.

About 4.7 million people are bitten by dogs each year and more than half of the victims are children, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said. About 800,000 people seek medical attention for the bites. Less than half of those people require treatment and about 16 die, the agency said.
In New York City, according to another report in the Daily News, the "good news" is that ""Last year, the total number of bites was down 1.3% from the record high of 3,607 in 2010." So much for off-leash reducing dog bites.

Hat-tips to Christina and Rob.
