After Irene

We took a 90-minute walk in the southwest corner of Prospect Park (for lack of any open alternative), from Park Circle around the left side of the lake to the Boathouse and back. We saw fewer than 20 dogs, but more than half were unleashed, with at least two on the Nethermead and four on the Peninsula Meadow, including these two near the Maryland Monument. Several of the unleashed dogs were pit bulls. There were cops in the park; one fellow we passed said that one prowl car had just stopped to tellhttp://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gif him the park was closed (downed trees, I guess). But the presence of law enforcement did not seem to deter the selfish dog owners.
